When using it for the first time you need to wash it properly and then simply fill the bottom tray 3/4. Now gently put the top tray over it and push it (Make sure to put the tray on flat surface when using it). Now simply slip the tray in the freezer and let it freeze for 4 to 6 hours. The ice ball mold is made of silicon and creates 4 ice balls. Silicon makes it easier to take out the ice balls and ensures that the mold does not get damaged while doing so. I liked almost everything about this ice maker, except its small size. You only get four balls from one mold, so either you have to invest in buying more molds to host a party or you can keep freezing and storing ice balls days before the party to look after the needs of everyone in the party, which is a tiring and lengthy process. A bigger tray would be much more helpful! 

Overall, I am quite happy with the ice ball maker and find it quite useful. It is great for entertaining guest and would make a great gift because of the cute packing!
